Empowering Clinicians in IgA Nephropathy: Bridging Knowledge Gaps for Better Outcomes

IgA nephropathy (IgAN) is the most common primary glomerulonephritis worldwide. Around half of patients reach end-stage kidney disease within 10–15 years of diagnosis. Even so, referral is often delayed by years, guideline-recommended therapy is applied unevenly, and many clinicians are still unfamiliar with the targeted therapies now changing treatment. This 60-minute eLearning module features Dr Fervenza, Dr Canetta and Dr Navarro-Torres. It combines an animated video, an expert commentary, a moderated panel discussion and a real patient case. It covers:

  • Mechanisms: how the disease develops, including galactose-deficient IgA1, the four-hit hypothesis and how genetics varies across populations.
  • Recognition and referral: the signs that should prompt a biopsy, and why referral is delayed.
  • Risk: stratification using Oxford MEST-C scoring and the International IgAN Prediction Tool.
  • Treatment: KDIGO guidance up to the 2025 update, and how a disease’s mechanism guides the choice of newer targeted therapies.
