ForwardTopical Treatment Strategies for Mild-to-Moderate Pediatric Atopic Dermatitis: Transforming Standards of Care
Pediatric atopic dermatitis (AD) ranges from mild dry skin and occasional itch to severe, widespread inflammation. Symptoms such as pruritus disrupt sleep and cause emotional distress and social embarrassment for children and their families. This 30-minute eLearning module helps healthcare professionals improve care across mild-to-moderate pediatric AD, with a focus on the growing role of advanced, steroid-sparing topical therapies in the treatment algorithm.
An animated introduction shows how genetic factors, environmental triggers and Th2-mediated immune dysregulation combine to disrupt the skin barrier. Next, Dr Adelaide A. Hebert and Dr Matthew Zirwas discuss two real-world cases:
- an infant with persistent AD, managed with topical corticosteroids and crisaborole
- a young child with chronic AD and previous treatment complications, controlled long term with roflumilast 0.05% cream
In an expert commentary, Dr Zirwas reviews the American Academy of Pediatrics and AAAAI/ACAAI 2023 guidelines, adherence-focused prescribing, and key Phase 3 data from the INTEGUMENT-PED, INTEGUMENT-1/2 and ADORING trials. Knowledge checks, an infographic, slide decks and a curated collection of research articles support the learning.
